Stephen was born and raised in small town Minnesota amongst the lakes and cornfields. He cut his teeth in the thriving theatre world of the Twin Cities, and made the leap east. Stephen studied at Syracuse University's Drama Dept. and subsequently at Shakespeare's Globe in London, acquiring a conservatory education and an incurable case of Anglophilia. Graduating Magna Cum Laude with a BFA in Acting, Stephen relocated the very next day to Manhattan to begin his professional career.
After touring the country and working regionally, Stephen made his Off-Broadway debut at Lincoln Center Theater in The Grand Manner. Shortly thereafter, he made the next step up in the original Broadway cast of the Tony Award winning Best Play, War Horse. He would return to Broadway three years later in another London transfer. This time as a member of the original revival cast of the Tony Award winning Best Revival of a Play, Skylight. On the screen, Stephen has appeared in numerous films as well as on primetime shows such as Gotham, Blue Bloods, and Billions.
His work has been recognized individually on the regional theater circuit, having been nominated for Best Supporting Actor in Broadway World's Regional Theater Awards. Stephen also spends time teaching actors on the autism spectrum, leading audition classes for the Actionplay organization. He continues to work regionally and in New York, travel abroad as much as possible, and watch soccer voraciously.
